White or tooth colored fillings are composite. In the past they were placed only in
the front teeth. They have evolved to the point of being placed in any teeth, front
or back. They are the preferred 'state of the art' filling material. Composites are
resins containing no mercury or silver metals. Composite restorations are chemically
bonded to natural tooth structure, making the restoration 3 times as strong and
resistant to fracture as teeth filled with silver alloys.
